AI PATTERN RECOGNITION
Can AI Detect Candlestick Patterns? Yes — Here's How.
WickScan recognizes 40+ candlestick and structural patterns from a screenshot of any chart — engulfing candles and doji through head and shoulders, triangles, flags and channels — with three AI engines reading in consensus and a verification pass on the patterns they agree on. More importantly, it reads each pattern in context: trend, structure and levels decide whether a pattern is a setup or just a shape. Free to start, no credit card.
What patterns can AI recognize on a chart?
Two families. Candle formations — engulfing candles, doji, hammers and shooting stars, morning and evening stars — which speak to the last few bars. And larger structures — double and triple tops and bottoms, head and shoulders, ascending, descending and symmetrical triangles, wedges, flags and channels — which frame the whole chart. WickScan reads both, plus the market-structure vocabulary between them: breaks of structure, higher highs and lower lows, supply and demand zones.
Detection has an evidence bar. A channel needs real touches on both boundaries; a pattern the engines disagree about is reported at lower confidence or not at all; and patterns the engines agree on go through a dedicated verification pass that confirms and refines their boundaries before anything is drawn on your read. The goal is fewer, better patterns — not a chart buried under labels.
A pattern is not a signal — context decides
The classic failure of pattern scanners is treating every detected shape as a buy or sell button. The same double bottom means different things at major support in an uptrend and under heavy resistance in a downtrend — which is why WickScan never hands you a pattern list and wishes you luck. Patterns are one input to a single consensus verdict that also weighs trend, market structure and the levels the chart itself shows. When the whole picture clears the quality bar, you get a complete trade bracket — entry, stop-loss and target read from the chart's own price axis, with a graded risk-reward. When it doesn't, the read says "no clean setup" and gives you the trigger levels that would change the answer.

Is it free?
Yes — WickFree is a permanent free tier with no credit card and the complete analysis output, including detected patterns with their consensus and the exact entry, stop-loss and take-profit read when a setup exists. The free scan allowance never recharges; WickPro ($29.99/month list price) recharges it every week and adds WickJournal AI training — every scan is saved, you tag how it played out, and those tags train a personal AI on your own trading. WickScan is an educational analysis tool operated by Pnav Systems LLC — it does not stream live market data, execute trades or promise outcomes, and nothing it produces is financial advice.
Frequently asked questions
Can AI detect candlestick patterns from a chart screenshot?
Yes. WickScan detects 40+ candlestick and structural patterns — engulfing candles, doji, hammers, double tops and bottoms, head and shoulders, triangles, flags, channels and more — directly from the pixels of your screenshot. Three AI engines read the chart independently, and patterns they agree on go through an additional verification pass before being drawn on the read.
Which chart patterns does it recognize?
Both single-candle and multi-candle formations (engulfing, doji, hammer, shooting star, morning and evening stars) and larger structures (double and triple tops/bottoms, head and shoulders, ascending/descending/symmetrical triangles, wedges, flags, channels), plus market-structure events like breaks of structure and higher highs / lower lows. Pattern evidence has a bar to clear — a channel, for example, needs real touches on both boundaries, not two lucky candles.
Is a detected pattern the same as a trade signal?
No, and treating them as the same thing is how pattern tools lose people money. A double bottom in a downtrend under heavy resistance is not the same trade as one at major support. WickScan reads patterns as one input alongside trend, market structure and support/resistance, and only ships a trade bracket — entry, stop-loss, target — when the whole picture clears its quality bar. When it doesn't, the read says 'no clean setup' and gives trigger levels instead.
Does it work on any platform's charts?
Any chart that renders as an image: TradingView, MetaTrader 4/5, thinkorswim, Webull, Robinhood, Binance, Coinbase or a broker app, on stocks, crypto, forex, gold, indices or futures. Phone screenshots work — the chart area is detected and app chrome is cropped away automatically.
How is this better than learning patterns myself?
It isn't a replacement — it's a second pair of eyes that never gets tired or biased. Humans famously see the patterns they want to see, especially in positions they already hold. A consensus read from three engines that had no opinion about your trade five seconds ago is a useful check on that. If you want to learn the patterns themselves, our candlestick pattern guide covers the major formations and the psychology behind them.
Is the free tier actually free?
Yes — permanently free, no credit card, and you get the complete analysis output: detected patterns with the three-engine consensus, support and resistance, and the exact entry, stop-loss and take-profit read when a setup exists. The free scan allowance never recharges; WickPro ($29.99/month list) recharges it every week.
